Team admin role

The team admin role controls sensitive actions in a team workspace: member management, project deletion, and other operations protected by the only_team_admin check.

In the system this role is stored as member_role = ADMINISTRATOR. In the UI it may appear as Administrator or team admin - these names refer to the same role.

Who gets team admin automatically

When you create a team, you are added as a member with:

  • team_member_status = ACCEPTED
  • member_role = ADMINISTRATOR (team admin)

You do not need a separate step to activate admin rights - they are assigned at team creation.

Only a user with ACCEPTED status and the ADMINISTRATOR role passes the team admin check. A pending or banned admin cannot perform these actions.

Read-only behaviour: Read-only member role.

Adding more team admins

A team admin can promote another ACCEPTED member to ADMINISTRATOR (team admin) through team member management.

The number of team admins allowed in a team depends on your plan (tariff):

PeriodAdmin limit
Beta (2026–2027)No cap - you can add as many admins as needed. See Limits.
After betaLimited by tariff; details will be published before limits take effect.

To add an admin:

  1. Open Team members in the team workspace.
  2. Find the member (they must already be in the team with status ACCEPTED).
  3. Change their role from MEMBER (or READONLY) to ADMINISTRATOR (team admin).

Only an existing team admin can change roles and statuses.

Demoting or removing admins

  • A team admin can change another member's role back to MEMBER or to READONLY.
  • A team admin cannot set their own role to READONLY.
  • A team admin can change a member's status (for example to BANNED or REJECTED) or remove them from the team.

Plan carefully: if you remove all team admins, no one in the team will be able to delete projects or manage member roles until support intervenes.
